I managed to flip through this recently released book of Louise Bourgeois's fiber work a few weeks ago at Powell's. It looks diviine!:

Leave it to Louise—the first time I've seen baby blue and pink and didn't find myself repulsed.

Dog Show

UPDATE. Here's one photo I scanned off of my role. Some of the images definitely have potential. There's lots of nice compositions, colors, and shapes. Though I think it'll take a lot of dog show attendances before any true, content-driven portfolio begins to develop.
--------
1/31/11: Today I'm picking up my negatives from the dog show extravaganza that was last week. The Rose City Classic.

A couple friends and I hopped back and forth between events for a few hours at the Expo Center, snapping shots of the devastation of fur in the grooming area, the pride on the platforms, and the wonderful apparel. There were snoozies, sweaters, dachsund tapestries...anything the eye can image, plus more which you probably couldn't image.

It's Friday. Friday.

I've been doing some blogging for the Mercury. Here's the skivy on First Friday!

Jake Stangel does some really excellent work, and tirelessly (to the left is one of his images). Am excited to have discovered his online photo co-op as well, Too Much Chocolate, and hoping we can sneak in an interview in the next couple weeks for a feature.

polaroid

I took this polaroid the other day of my countertop and am in love with the image that came out. A surprise.

sfmoma

I was looking through photos on my computers and found some photos from the sfmoma that i had forgotten about.
I'm not even sure who took this photo. I suppose I took mine in a moment of a nerdy self-reflexivity

more polaroids

I found these two polaroids that I took while still in Eugene. The bottom image I found on Hayward's Field, right by the Rec center.

Apparently I always take my shoes off in the same fashion.

Underwater

Researching deep-sea diving images recently. Am very taken with these early tests of underwater photographs, where they haven't quite got it figured out yet

Also, these photos, of dives in the Bay of Alexandria. The first image is incredible.

The Things of This World

Saw this awesome lecture with Kay Ryan, and I love this poem:

Wherever the eye lingers
it finds a hunger.
The things of the world
want us for dinner.
Inside each pebble or leaf
or puddle is a hook.
The appetites of the world
compete to catch a look.
What does this mean?
and how does it work?
Why aren't rocks complete?
Why isn't green adequate
to green? We aren't gods
whose gaze could save,
but that's how the things
of the world behave.

Also really enjoy this Robert Hass poem, Meditation at Laguinitas:

Things I find while taking walks.

Fan Drawing: Sun. Mon. Tues. Wed. Thurs. Fri.

All of the books I own. 8th photo down, a drawing made by the fan

Below, "wall transfers" made by doing a rubbing of a wall and transposing it onto the opposite wall using masking tape and graphite.

Show pics

An ink jet printout of Neil Armstrong on the moon - I went over the printout and tried to match the tones with an ink wash, but as I overlayed the wash, trying to recreate and match the image, the ink jet print spread and bled. This is the back

Exquisite corpse drawing, done with Rachael, 30 minutes a day in the gallery, on the gallery wall, Tuesday-Friday. Check out David Homer's flickr account. He was so awesome as to take photos of our show. Thank you David :)
